Let's go Yum Cha! Take kids on a delicious journey
through the sights, smells, and sounds of eating Dim Sum!
I was really happy when Alister reach out to me with his manuscript about dim sum,
and I fell in love with the story the first time I read it. An opportunity to work on
a children’s book about food from my grandparents’ culture? Signed me up!

Working on the project itself was an absolute joy, everything was so smooth,
I had a great time illustrating the book! I also did order some dim sum
a few times while working on it lol!
Alister mentioned he wanted the character to doesn’t look like a boy or a girl. I did some research and I realized that most Asian children might have some bowl cut earlier in their life, including me and Alister! So we did it, the bowl cut fits perfectly for this character.
While working on the storyboard, I wanted to make sure the food looks as appetizing as possible. So I came up with the concept that the food will turn giant so the kid can enjoy the food as much as possible.
The colors that I used for this book are based on Chinese culture's lucky colors, such as red, yellow gold, orange, and a hint of blue.

-Red or vermilion, corresponding with fire, symbolizes good fortune and joy.
-Yellow signifies neutrality and good luck.
-Blue or azure and green is associated with health, prosperity, and harmony.
The shape and texture for the steam was inspired by the clouds in old Chinese painting.
So grab your copy here and you’ll be hungry in no time!
